THE GRAPEVINE
Welcome Back!
We are glad to see Danielle Callender return from maternity leave and wish her much success as she makes her transition.
Congratulations are in order for several of our fall sports teams as they continue to excel in post-season playoffs. Kudos to coaches Larry Schofield, Jim Zehe, Kristen McManus and Jack Thomas for a great job!
Once again, Kathryn Carlsen and the outstanding drama program were recognized on Fox TV this week. The fall play is in preparation and we hope everyone can come out to support Kathryn and the students.
Thanks to Thersa Heimiller for hosting the HCPSS Math League’s 2nd competition and congrats to her and the CHS Mathletes on the winning team standing for the meet.
PEDAGOGY CORNER
It is time to bolster the writing skills of our students. Too often we fail to realize the importance of writing in the learning process. Writing is often assigned as punishment instead of learning, according to researchers. There are some methods you can use writing to support learning. Here are a few:
(1) Ask students to write what they already know about the subject to be discussed, as class begins.
(2) During class, ask students to stop, summarize in writing, what has been discussed.
(3) At the end of the lesson, ask students to connect what they have learned to their own experience.
