Mission Statement
The mission of the Laurel Woods Elementary School Media Center is to inspire in students a love of reading and to empower students, staff and the community to become effective administrators of their own learning.
Vision
Our vision is to provide the environment and learning experiences that will produce students who love literature and who can solve problems and answer questions by accessing and using information with confidence. The Laurel Woods Media Center...
Creates a learning environment that is safe, nurturing, and welcoming.
Allows students and staff open access to all age-appropriate resources.
Introduces students to new and varied literature to inspire in them a love of reading and an understanding of the importance of reading.
Uses curriculum objectives to teach students how to access, use, and synthesize information independently.
Teaches staff and students how to use resources responsibly.
Works collaboratively with teachers to promote the effective use of information and technology in the classroom.
Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of a wide variety of learners.
Book Selection
The Laurel Woods Media Center adheres to a strict selection policy. All books chosen for the media have positive reviews from respected professional journals and are age-appropriate. We value students' intellectual freedom and grant them open access to the resources found in the media center.
Students may borrow books from the media center during media class or between the hours of 8:45 and 3:30 when the media center is open. We encourage parents to share the love of reading with their children.
"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.”
