The Cold War -- a pivotal era in American history

Just one of the Cold War images available through a database.

In 1968, I crossed the Iron Curtain at the Austria-Czech border.  I was on a tour of Europe with my college choir.  Seeing the real border, fence, wire, guards - it literally made me ill.  I was crossing the Iron Curtain - a scary business!  There is no time machine to take you back to the Cold War years - our databases and our print collection can, hopefully, fill you in on what was going on at the time.

I found this picture of a truck during the Korean War  at one of our databases - ABC-Clio American History.  I used the worlds cold war as a search term and found an article with links to an overview of the period.  The links include images, documents, quotes, biographies and more.

Search the SIRS database with the term cold war and you will get web links, images, primary sources, research articles and more. Click on Thompson-Gale and go to Student Resouce Center Gold - cold war is a topic right on the front page.

A great introduction to the what the cold war period covers is found in the World Book Encyclopedia entry.  It's well organized, has images and includes links to special reports and web sites.

Just got reminded by one of Ms. Hall's students about The Living Room Candidate .  This site has links to presendential campaign commercials - the look and topics of these commercials give you a window to the Cold War era.

And remember - we've got lots of books, too!  Any questions?  Just ask.
