1. How often does my child have music? All students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade attend music for 60 minutes each week. The Intermediate grade levels (3-5) have music once a week for 60 minutes; Primary grades (K-2) have music twice a week for 30 minutes.
2. What does my child learn in music? All students are presented a music program that is structured, comprehensive, and "hands-on". Whenever possible, general music classes incorporate cross-curricular instruction while promoting music skills through reading, performance, ear training, composition, improvisation, creativity and FUN!
3. When does chorus rehearse? 4th grade rehearses during the last 30 minutes of the day on Thursdays; 5th grade rehearses during recess on Tuesdays.
4. Can my student drop out of chorus? It is very important that students and parents understand that chorus is a yearlong commitment. It is important to each member of the chorus to have the support, encouragement and commitment of all the chorus members and their parents.
5. Can my child participate in chorus if they are in instrumental music (orchestra/band)? Yes! Elementary school is a place for explorations. Therefore, every effort is made to allow all interested students to participate in chorus and instrumental music.
6. Who plays recorder? All students in 3rd, 4th & 5th grade play recorder during each general music class.
7. Where can I purchase a recorder? Recorders can be purchased at school for $7.00 on a first-come first-served basis. Parents may also purchase recorders at their local music store.
8. What does my student need for general music class? 3rd, 4th & 5th graders are required to come to music with their recorder, folder and music. Primary students do not have materials requirements.
