I have been teaching for more than 27 years! I've been a Special Education teacher, a literacy coordinator and administrator for grades K-12, as well as an Adult Education and college instructor in various public and private systems in Maryland and overseas. I graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S in Elementary and Special Education, and a M.ED in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola College in Maryland. My post-graduate work has been in Reading, Assessment, and Educational Technology. I really enjoy using technology to enhance learning. I am currently working on a graduate program in multimedia for distance and e-learning. One good thing about technology is that there is always something new to learn. Sometimes I stumble upon a program or a skill and inadvertently realize that there are numerous applications for it.

I grew up in Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C. I  live with my husband in Columbia. Except for some years overseas, which we enjoyed tremendously, we raised our family here. We have two daughters- both graduates from Howard County Public Schools. One of our daughters is a high school Guidance Counselor and our other daughter works in government technology training. We all really love animals and we've had many pets (and many stories about our pets) over the years. We have a Border Collie and Border Terrier  (Pete and Frank)- and we also have doxie granddogs named Richard and Doug (who like to visit often!)

I enjoy teaching in the middle school environment because students at this age are really ready to launch into all kinds of literacy experiences. This is an exciting time to teach because  we can learn with traditional materials as well as take advantage of what technology has to offer. I enjoy teaching reading because I love just about every subject discipline! Reading is the basis of EVERYTHING!
