How can I print out my homework at school?
How can I print out my homework at WLHS?

Many computers only have programs like Word Perfect – these files are not recognized by Microsoft Word. If you need to print out your homework here at school, there are a few ways to do it.  To produce a file that Word will open, you need to do the following:

Save your work to your home computer first.  Do a Save as with the file and save it to a floppy or a flash drive.  When the Save As screen comes up, look for a box that says Save as type and change the file type to text, plain text or rich text format.  When you open this file at school, the computers will recognize it and you’ll be able to print a copy.

Is there another way to do this?  Yes, there is!!

Try using Google Docs and Spreadsheets.  Create a Gmail account – this will give you access to Google Docs.  Documents created on Google Docs are recognized by Microsoft Office and will print.  Google Docs lets you create word style documents, spreadsheets that work with Excel and projects that work with PowerPoint.  What’s great about this is you have access to your files from any computer that connects to the Internet.

Another option?

Download this free program at:  http://www.openoffice.org/

This gives you a program that works on your computer, even when you are not connected to the Internet.  See Ms. Bailey or Mrs. Carson - we can open this for you and save it to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
