Adding icons to your desktop in First Class 8.3
1 - How to find a conference
I wanted to find the Media Specialists conference for my First Class Desktop. The FC team at NTO showed me what to do.
Go to your desktop and look for the icon named Content Support. Open this. Look at the list and find a conference. Right click on the conference icon and select Add to Desktop. Presto - this conference is now on the deskop. Drag it around and place it where you will.
A great conference to add to your desktop is On-Line Research Links. This has passwords for all county databases by level. It also has links to professonal research databases. There is a password list here for staff to use for the professional databases.
Warning: Do not include electronic copies of the Homework Helpers sheets on your web pages - we need to keep our passwords on paper only for the students. At Wilde Lake High, our students have a password page in their agenda books - another great reason to use those agendas.
2. Using the workspace feature - where is that icon??
If you are added to a workspace (workspaces are great ways to create a group area to share info and documents), it will pop up on your desktop. If you are the workspace creator, double-check all the names to make sure you didn't forget someone.
For more information on workspaces, use the First Class help. Go to your desktop and look for the Help button on the top of the desktop. Open Help. Click on the Contents button at the top of the page. Select Workspaces and find out more about this useful communication tool.
