Seniors
Don’t forget to request your transcripts at least 20 school days before your deadline (a tip: if you have a Jan 1 deadline, you need to request transcripts BEFORE Thanksgiving break to have them ready to mail. When your transcripts are ready, your name will be on a list outside of the Counseling Center. If your name is on this list, please pick up your transcript on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. Please keep in mind that Thanksgiving break is coming up, so students will need to pick up transcripts before the break if they have a November 30th or December 1st deadline. We will not be working over Thanksgiving or Winter break.
If your colleges are requesting mid-year grades, please provide the registrars with a stamped addressed envelope starting in January. Please write your name in pencil on the envelope so we know whose grade report to send. We will send them all out at once in early February once your mid-year grades have been entered. If there are any forms your counselor needs to fill out, please paperclip them to the envelope.
We will host a Financial Aid Information Night for parents of seniors on December 7th.
Starting on Jan 1, 2010 you can complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Even if you don’t think you will qualify for any aid, you MUST complete this form to be eligible for a lot of merit based aid provided by colleges. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov for more info.
Parents: Do not wait until you file your tax returns to complete the FAFSA. Use estimated numbers or your 2008 tax numbers, then go back later and correct any changes. If you wait until your taxes are filed there may not be any funds left.
Scholarships will be posted on Family Connection throughout the year. Please check FC regularly so you don’t miss out on any scholarships.
More and more colleges are accepting the ACT scores as a substitute for SAT’s; though check the college’s website to be sure. The upcoming ACT exams are February 6th and April 10th. The registration deadline for the February ACT exam is January 5th. The website is: www.actstudent.org.
