Class Goals

Welcome to Mrs. Bollard's Class Web Page. We will have an exciting year studying, reading, and writing together. We will develop our reading, writing and thinking skills through various activities in a Patterns in Literature Overview examining a Biography Unit and Folklore Journey, as well as a novel study unit. I will keep this web page, as well as the TeacherEase grade program, up to date with information about what we are studying, homework, long range projects, and hopefully photos and activity handout updates

Unit Information

The basic study of English relies on literature. Students will identify and evaluate patterns in literature, themes, characters, style, while examining biographies, autobiographies, folklore, and a variety of classic and modern short stories and poetry.

Grading Policies

All assignments contribute to a student grade that measures performance. Homework (10%) will be graded for both completion and accuracy; Classwork: quizzes, group activities, rough drafts, etc. (40%), Writings/Projects: Brief responses like summaries and literary analysis, as well as a personal narrative and quarterly developed multi-paragraph essays (45%) and the Howard County Assessments (5%). All work is weighted based on points and percentages. Five nights per week students are expected to focus 15-20 minutes on English work.

Student progress and grades are updated online.

Homework

Use of Microsoft Office is highly encouraged for homework and final written assignments.
Recommendation: All computer work must be in Microsoft Office 2004 versions; newer versions of Office cannot be read with our current class computer iBook G4. Use a flash memory drive and bring work to school to save email and computer memory space. Thank you.
