This site contains 6+1 Traits of Writing lessons.

Each lesson combines the Six Trait Model with
high quality children's literature to reinforce content,
writing objectives and/or technology objectives.
What are the 6+1 Traits of Writing?

The 6+1 Traits of Writing Model is an assessment tool that works with our curriculum to guide instruction so all students
can meet their writing goals.

It is not a curriculum.
It is not a program.
It is a way of looking at writing that enables teachers and students to have a common language. It answers the question
"What makes good writing work?"

The Traits are

Ideas
Sentence Fluency
Organization
Voice
Word Choice
Conventions
Presentation

Why Incorporate the 6+1 Traits of Writing
in Second Grade?

Second graders are hungry to communicate. These beginning writers benefit from trait driven instruction because Write Traits' language builds on what they know and points them to the next step. Our second graders will learn that they write so that others can know what they think.

Document Repository.

Helpful Hints for Working with the  6+1 Traits of Writing/Content Lessons.

~  Each lesson folder is named with the title of the read aloud that support the lesson.
~  All of the resources that  you need to teach the  lessons are contained in the lesson folder.
~  Some lessons may require several sessions. For example, the read aloud can occur whenever your schedule allows for it. The             book can then be revisited during  writing workshop as a springboard  for your focused  mini-lesson.
~ We encourage the classroom teacher and the technology teacher to collaborate to make the best use of these lessons.
~  Be sure to check out some of the technology connections with the 6+1 Write Traits on the Document Repository.
